You know your wife, partner or mom is the sweetest. We have some fun ways to show her this year, just in time for Mother’s Day, with homemade Mother’s Day gifts. Skip breakfast in bed this year as your gift to Mom—which usually means a messy kitchen and eating slightly burnt toast—and treat her to four easy, all-natural bath indulgences that make for great homemade Mother’s Day gifts.

All of these can be made mainly with ingredients in your house or found at a local grocery store or food co-op. We love that each item can be customized to your wife, mom or your own preferences.

Like lemon over lime? Not an issue! Want to try grapefruit? Great! And, they’re simple enough to scale that you could easily make them for all the women in your life, from aunts to grandmas.

And if you are the mom of the house, why not make them with your kids as a spring activity? When you are asked what you really want for Mother’s Day, you can say that you want some time to yourself in a hot, indulgent bath with your homemade spa products. A little mommy-me time is good for everyone.

Homemade Mother's Day Gifts

We put together four easy, all-natural recipes to make homemade Mother’s Day gifts a breeze. The best part was all can be made in under an hour with measuring spoons, cups, bowls and jars.

Add some Surf Sweets, a card, and some freshly sliced cucumber for tired eyes to give Mom ultimate relaxation. She’ll love the minimal mess and maximum enjoyment of these gifts. And Mom feels appreciated and cared for, just like she makes the rest of the family feel.

For containers, use mason jars or empty jam jars or pretty clear containers at local shops or boutiques. We love that you can reuse what you have and also have the jars for storage afterwards.

Homemade Mother's Day Gifts

Vanilla Brown Sugar Scrub

1 cup olive oil (you can use alternatives like grapeseed, sunflower or jojoba)

1 cup Wholesome! Organic Cane Sugar

1 ½ cups Wholesome! Organic Light Brown Sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract (make sure it’s pure extract and not flavoring)

Mix the ingredients in a bowl and then store in an airtight jar.

Sugar scrub can be used once a week to exfoliate. It’s especially great on the face and neck where salt scrubs are too strong or for individuals with sensitive skin. It dissolves quickly in warm water, leaving no residue just soft (and scented!) skin. You can also add some Vitamin E oil for extra moisturizing. If the sugar and oil separate, stir with a spoon.

Citrus Salt Scrub

1 cup grapeseed oil

½ cup fine sea salt

+/- 20 drops of citrus essential oils per cup of sea salt (lemon, lime, orange and grapefruit are all fairly easy to find).

Mix the ingredients in a bowl and then store in an airtight jar.

Salt scrub is an excellent exfoliant and, with the moisturizing oil, leaves skin soft and smooth.  We added orange essential oils as a pick-me-up making the whole experience refreshing and invigorating. Any essential oil can be substituted so spend some time sniffing around for a smell you think Mom will like. You can also make it as subtle or strong as you like or use other essential oils like lavender or mint.

You can use almost any moisturizing element in these homemade Mother’s Day gifts, from grapeseed oil to jojoba oil or high quality olive oils. We recommend sourcing fine sea salt (available at many grocery stores or food co-ops) as table salt can be abrasive.

Use your salt scrub once a week, but not on your face and neck! If you have very sensitive skin, try adding citrus oils to your sugar scrub instead. If the salt and oil begin to separate in the jar, give it a quick stir before applying.

Lavender Chamomile Bath Tea

4-5 tablespoons loose tea

4-5 cups hot water

Steep the tea in boiling water for five minutes or more. Strain it into a bottle.

Chamomile tea is just about the most relaxing drink out there and is also an anti-inflammatory. Lavender is one of the best known scents for relaxation. When we found lavender chamomile tea we loved the idea of relaxing surrounded by the scent of the two combined. You could also offer this in a variety of teas from invigorating mint to refreshing lemon verbena. Again, it’s about what Mom loves!

When it’s bathtime, pour the tea into the bath, swirl and enjoy.

Peppermint Lip Scrub

Wholesome! Organic Cane Sugar, ground super fine

Olive oil

Peppermint essential oil or extract.

You’ll want your sugar super fine for your lip scrub. Place the desired amount of sugar in a food processor and grind for a minute or so until it is more soft than coarse. In a small bowl, mix together the caster sugar and olive oil until they form a spreadable paste. Add a drop or two of peppermint or desired extract.

This is one of our homemade Mother’s Day gifts that is safe and delicious enough to eat! Store in a tiny jar and tell Mom to place some paste on her lips, massage and then lick it off. She’ll reveal soft lips and enjoy the sweet taste.
